The Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah recently announced a reduction in speed limits on two major roads, Al Ittihad and Al Wahda. The speed limit has been decreased from 100kmph to 80kmph, with the exact date of implementation yet to be confirmed. The affected stretch spans approximately 4.3km from Al Taawun Bridge to King Faisal Bridge, encompassing key neighborhoods frequented by Dubai-Sharjah commuters. Fines for speeding in Sharjah vary depending on the road and the extent of the violation, with penalties ranging from Dh300 to Dh3,000, black points, and potential vehicle confiscation for severe offences. This initiative aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and combat daily congestion during peak traffic hours.

To address traffic congestion, the UAE has been exploring various strategies to alleviate traffic challenges. Authorities have implemented speed reduction exercises in areas like Sharjah and Al Garhoud Bridge, with limits reduced from 100kmph to 80kmph to improve traffic flow. In addition to speed limit adjustments, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai conducted a survey to assess the feasibility of flexible working hours and remote work arrangements to lessen commute times. Furthermore, the Ministry of Interior is considering the construction of a new federal highway connecting all seven emirates, proposed by the Federal National Council, to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.

One of the initiatives aimed at enhancing traffic flow is the installation of 48 AI-enhanced traffic signals by the SRTA, which is expected to increase traffic flow by up to 30% through real-time traffic analysis and signal adjustments. Additionally, the completion of projects on Ittihad Road and the Al Taawun area has effectively reduced bottlenecks and improved traffic conditions. These measures seek to streamline traffic flow and enhance road safety for motorists in Sharjah and beyond. Residents in the UAE spend significant time in traffic, with initiatives like flexible working hours and upgraded traffic signals helping to alleviate congestion and improve overall transportation efficiency.

To stay informed about the latest news and developments in Sharjah, residents can follow KT on WhatsApp channels for regular updates on traffic regulations and road safety measures. By implementing speed limit reductions, conducting surveys on commuting patterns, and exploring innovative traffic solutions, authorities in the UAE aim to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion for commuters across the country. Through collaborative efforts and strategic initiatives, the UAE seeks to optimize transportation systems and create a safer, more efficient road network for all motorists.
