Sharjah Airport recently welcomed the first flights of Saudi airline Flynas, marking a significant addition to the list of carriers operating scheduled flights to and from Sharjah in the UAE. The airline has commenced operations with 7 weekly flights from Jeddah to Sharjah Airport, along with 2 weekly flights from Madinah to Sharjah Emirate using its Boeing 737 aircraft. This move is aimed at expanding the international aviation network through Sharjah Airport and catering to the growing number of passengers and increased air cargo movement by providing high-quality and efficient services.
The inaugural flight of Flynas was inaugurated in the presence of Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), along with other officials and managers at the airport. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of SAA, expressed his pride in welcoming Flynas to the network of airlines operating in Sharjah Airport. He emphasized the airport’s commitment to reinforcing its position in the travel and aviation sectors by expanding its services, buildings, and supporting facilities, in line with a long-term strategy aimed at enhancing the airport’s capabilities.
As part of its ongoing expansion project, Sharjah Airport is working towards increasing its capacity to accommodate 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027. This growth trajectory aligns with the airport’s goal of becoming a major hub for both domestic and international travel. By partnering with airlines like Flynas and expanding its operations, Sharjah Airport aims to boost its tourism sector and attract visitors from the Gulf countries, the Arab world, and beyond. The airport’s strategic location and state-of-the-art facilities further contribute to its appeal as a travel destination.
The collaboration between the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the tourism, travel, and cargo sectors has been thriving, with significant growth in recent years. Both countries offer diverse tourist attractions, host major international events, and maintain strong economic and trade relations, fostering opportunities for investment and business activities. The religious significance of Saudi Arabia as a destination for pilgrimage and Umrah trips also contributes to the steady flow of travel between the two nations. Sharjah Airport’s strategic position as a gateway between these countries plays a vital role in facilitating this movement of people and goods.
With the growing demand for air travel and the increasing number of airlines operating through Sharjah Airport, the Emirate is poised to enhance its reputation as a global economic and tourism center. The continuous efforts to improve infrastructure, services, and connectivity at the airport reflect Sharjah’s commitment to providing a seamless travel experience for passengers. As the aviation industry evolves, Sharjah Airport remains at the forefront of innovation and development, poised to cater to the diverse needs of travelers and further solidify its position as a key player in the regional and international aviation landscape.
