The Al Dhaid Date Festival is an annual event that celebrates the rich tradition of date cultivation in the UAE. One of the participants in the festival is Omar Al Hammadi, a horticulturist from Ras Al Khaimah, who takes care of nearly 1,200 palm trees on his farm. Al Hammadi considers the date palms to be a part of his family and culturally significant, which is why he personally tends to them every weekend with his family.

The festival, organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), features extensive participation from palm owners, farmers, and industrialists from across the UAE. Participants showcase more than 35 varieties of locally grown dates, highlighting the rich diversity of date production in the country. In addition to dates, farmers also showcase other produce such as mangoes, lemons, papaya, bananas, and figs, making the festival a celebration of Emirati agriculture.

At the festival, visitors can explore an impressive collection of handicrafts made from date palm leaves and other materials, showcasing the region’s rich cultural legacy. The festival also features competitions for farmers, offering valuable prizes to winners in various categories, such as ‘The Best Lemons,’ ‘Fig Contest,’ and ‘The Most Beautiful Home-grown Dates’ for women.

The Al Dhaid Date Festival is not just about selling dates but also about celebrating the tradition and culture associated with date production. The festival offers a unique opportunity for farmers to showcase their prized produce and connect with consumers who appreciate the value of locally grown dates. With activities highlighting the UAE’s heritage in palm cultivation, the festival is a must-visit event for tourists and locals alike.
