Thwayib Hamza, an Indian expat living in Dubai, had his life completely changed after a horrific accident in 2019 left him with 80 per cent of his body covered in burns. Doctors did not expect him to survive, but miraculously, he pulled through after being in a three-month coma. Thwayib’s recovery journey was a challenging one, marked by numerous surgeries, skin grafts, and complications that resulted in him losing his hearing in both ears.
The accident occurred while Thwayib was working as a driver at a farm in Al Dhaid. Just returning from his annual vacation in India, he suffered severe burns when a burst of flames engulfed his body as he was making tea. Rushed to Rashid Hospital in critical condition, he slipped into a coma for three months. Upon waking up, doctors performed surgeries and skin grafts to repair the extensive damage to his body.
Thwayib’s health complications did not end with the burns. He also experienced a loss of hearing due to the excessive use of antibiotics during his coma, a common practice to prevent infections in burn victims. Despite the challenges, Thwayib was determined to recover. After months of physiotherapy and treatment, he regained his ability to walk and perform daily activities without pain.
Throughout his ordeal, Thwayib received unwavering support from his former employer, Al Nakhli Sector, who covered all his medical expenses without hesitation. He also credits the doctors and nurses at Rashid Hospital, particularly Dr Amna Belhoul and Dr Marwan Al Zarouni, for helping him through his recovery. Grateful for the assistance he received, Thwayib now looks forward to returning to Dubai to find a job and express his gratitude to the country that supported him during his darkest hours.
Thwayib’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Despite the odds stacked against him, he never gave up and fought his way back to health. His recovery journey serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges, showing that with perseverance and support, it is possible to overcome even the most daunting obstacles. Thwayib’s positive outlook and gratitude towards those who helped him along the way highlight the importance of community support in times of need.
As Thwayib prepares to return to Dubai and start a new chapter in his life, he remains steadfast in his determination to rebuild and move forward.
