Raisur Rahman, an Indian expat residing in Dubai, recently won a Dh10 million grand prize in the Big Ticket live draw series 264 in Abu Dhabi. Rahman, who came to Dubai in 2005, stated that he started trying his luck in lotteries at the insistence of his friend last year. The unexpected windfall, according to Rahman, was a “reward from the Almighty for his good deeds.”
During an interview with Khaleej Times, Rahman, the CEO of SI Global in Dubai, mentioned that things were happening smoothly for him, even during challenging times, which prompted his friend to suggest trying his luck with lotteries. Rahman admitted that he was not buying tickets regularly as he preferred to give that money to people in need. However, on June 15, he purchased the winning ticket number 078319 from the Big Ticket store at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi.
Rahman recalled the moment he bought the winning ticket, mentioning that a Filipino staff member at the counter had persuaded him to buy tickets, promising that his luck would shine. The 59-year-old, who is not required to share the grand prize with anyone, believes that his good deeds towards the poor and needy may have contributed to his win. Rahman expressed that treating everyone equally and performing actions that pleased the Almighty could have led to the reward for his contributions to society.
Despite winning the grand prize, Rahman remained calm and composed when informed by the show hosts Richard and Bouchra. He attributed his composure to being a direct descendant of the Indian ruler Tipu Sultan’s family of Mysore and having a life filled with varied experiences. Rahman emphasized that money should not be a priority and that it had not changed him.
Regarding the decision on what to do with the winning amount, Rahman stated that he would leave it to his wife and two children to decide. He also mentioned his intention to continue buying tickets in the future. Rahman’s story of winning the Big Ticket grand prize serves as a reminder of the importance of good deeds and treating others with kindness, regardless of personal circumstances.
