The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has refuted claims of involvement in the conflict in Sudan, dismissing them as baseless fabrications and mischaracterizations. The dispute arose after the Sudanese representative to the UN alleged that Emirati passports were found on the battlefield, among other accusations. However, the UAE clarified that the images presented do not depict passports but are scans or photocopies of expired passports from another country.
The UAE defended the four Emiratis implicated in the conflict, stating that they had traveled to Sudan for charitable purposes and business endeavors before the conflict began. The individuals view the allegations as defamatory and reserve their right to take legal action in response. Additionally, the UAE refuted claims that phones with Etisalat logos found in Sudan were evidence of Emirati involvement, explaining that the phones were obsolete civilian models sold widely in the past.
Amid accusations of supplying weapons to one of the warring parties in Sudan, the UAE reiterated its denial, labeling the claims as part of a disinformation campaign by the Sudanese Armed Forces. The UAE clarified that it had provided military assistance to Sudan as requested by the government before the conflict began. The cooperation between the two countries included the delivery of 30 unarmed armored vehicles to Sudan for defense purposes.
Despite the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the UAE expressed unwavering support for the people of Sudan and vowed to continue working towards a peaceful resolution. The UAE Mission to the UN emphasized its commitment to collaborating with the international community to achieve peace in Sudan. The UAE has also deployed field hospitals near the Chad-Sudan border to provide essential medical care to those in need and has pledged significant humanitarian aid to support the Sudanese population.
The conflict in Sudan erupted in April last year, leading to a devastating humanitarian crisis with millions in need of aid and facing famine. Nearly eight million people have been displaced from their homes, highlighting the urgency for a ceasefire and peaceful resolution to the conflict. The UAE called for an immediate end to hostilities and encouraged the warring parties to engage in negotiations for the establishment of a representative, civilian-led government in Sudan.
