Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, recently inaugurated the Arabic Cultural Institute at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy. This marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Sharjah and the university, which began seven years ago and has culminated in the establishment of the institute. Sheikh Sultan expressed his joy at the partnership and highlighted the cultural exchanges that have taken place, including visits by students and delegations between Sharjah and Milan.

During the inauguration ceremony, Sheikh Sultan shared insights into his research on the Arabic language and its origins, drawing attention to the connection between Arabic and early human migrations, with evidence found in Sharjah. He also discussed his ambition to create a comprehensive Arabic language corpus to enhance understanding of the language’s rich history. The event featured a performance by the ARABCOR choir, composed of students who have studied Arabic at the university, showcasing the cultural impact of Arabic language education.

The Arabic Cultural Institute in Milan is the first of its kind in Italy and serves as a platform to strengthen ties between Arab and Western civilizations. The institute aims to promote cultural exchange, support Arabic language education, and foster literary cooperation. Additionally, it will facilitate partnerships between Arab and Italian publishers, host Arabic language programs, and expand the Arabic Language Festival in Milan. Through these initiatives, the institute seeks to enhance understanding and appreciation of Arabic culture in Italy and beyond.

Sheikh Sultan’s visit to the Sharjah Archaeology Exhibition during the ceremony underscored the importance of preserving and showcasing Sharjah’s rich cultural heritage. The exhibition featured 83 artifacts from various historical periods, offering a glimpse into the region’s history and heritage. By showcasing these artifacts, Sheikh Sultan emphasized the significance of preserving cultural heritage and promoting intercultural dialogue between different civilizations.

The establishment of the Arabic Cultural Institute in Milan signifies a commitment to promoting intercultural understanding and collaboration between Arab and Western societies. By fostering partnerships between institutions, supporting language education, and promoting cultural exchange, the institute aims to create a platform for dialogue and mutual enrichment. As the first of its kind in Italy, the institute is poised to make a significant contribution to the promotion of Arabic culture and language in the region and beyond.

In conclusion, Sheikh Sultan’s visit to the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and the inauguration of the Arabic Cultural Institute highlight the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering positive relations between countries. Through initiatives such as the institute, countries can strengthen ties, promote mutual understanding, and celebrate the richness of their respective cultures. By supporting initiatives that promote cultural exchange and education, societies can bridge divides and build lasting connections that transcend geographical boundaries. The establishment of the Arabic Cultural Institute in Milan serves as a testament to the power of cultural diplomacy in promoting peace, understanding, and collaboration on a global scale.
