Heart attacks can happen to seemingly healthy individuals, as seen in the case of a 51-year-old Indian expat who suffered a heart attack and passed away while cycling in Abu Dhabi. Despite maintaining an active lifestyle, he unexpectedly collapsed and couldn’t be saved. Medical experts warn that heart attacks are affecting more people who seem healthy, active, and mindful of their lifestyle choices. Regular exercise is beneficial but does not eliminate the risk of heart disease. Neglecting critical aspects such as diet, stress management, and medical check-ups can increase the risk of heart attacks.

Genetics, family history, genetic predisposition, chronic stress, and hidden health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes can contribute to heart attacks, alongside factors like living in high-pollution areas, poor diet, and poor sleep quality. Factors like obesity, sedentary lifestyles, stress, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption can also increase the risk of heart attacks, especially among younger adults. Heart screenings can help identify underlying heart issues that could lead to sudden cardiac death, depending on the individual’s age and likely heart problems that could affect them.

Artery blockage can occur due to various factors like smoking, sedentary lifestyles, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and inherited diseases. However, leading a healthy lifestyle, incorporating exercise, healthy eating, and managing risk factors can reduce the risk of artery blockage and heart attacks. Recognizing warning signs of heart issues such as chest pain, shortness of breath, cold sweat, nausea, lightheadedness, swelling in the legs, palpitations, and discomfort in other areas of the body is essential for early detection and prevention of heart conditions.

Experts emphasize the importance of early detection of serious heart conditions through regular health check-ups, tailored treatments, and lifestyle modifications to reduce illness and death. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, adequate sleep, stress management, healthy eating habits, and avoiding processed foods can significantly impact overall health and prevent the onset of diseases. Engaging in daily physical activity, managing stress, getting enough sleep, and avoiding unhealthy habits like smoking and poor diet choices are crucial for heart health.

Dr. Kaes Al Anee, a consultant cardiologist, advises individuals to engage in daily exercise, aim for good-quality sleep, manage stress through meditation or hobbies, choose fresh foods over processed ones, and schedule regular health check-ups with a doctor. Ignoring potential health issues and signals from the body can increase the risk of heart problems. Taking proactive steps towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle, identifying risk factors for heart issues, and making positive changes can significantly improve physical and mental well-being. Ultimately, prioritizing heart safety through screenings, lifestyle modifications, and early detection can help prevent heart attacks and reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death.
