As Eid Al Adha approaches, the slaughterhouses in Abu Dhabi are gearing up to meet the demands of the festive season. The Abu Dhabi municipality has announced that the slaughterhouses will operate from 6.00am until 5.30pm every day throughout the week to accommodate the increased demand. The extended operating hours will be in effect from June 15 onwards, ensuring that the residents have ample time to prepare for the traditional sacrifices during Eid Al Adha.
To handle the influx of sacrifices and carcasses, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has expanded the capacity of its slaughterhouses. Approximately 37,000 sacrifices and carcasses are expected to be accommodated during this period. The municipality has also increased the number of butchers, maintenance crews, and distribution personnel at each slaughterhouse to ensure smooth operations and timely processing of the animals.
Special attention has been given to the outdoor areas of the slaughterhouses, with the installation of air-conditioned tents, shaded pathways, and chilled drinking water facilities. These amenities are particularly beneficial for visitors such as people with determination and senior citizens who frequent the slaughterhouses during Eid Al Adha. The municipality is committed to providing a comfortable and safe environment for all visitors.
In addition to the regular slaughterhouses, the municipality has designated specific locations for processing sacrifices requested by the Red Crescent and through smart applications. The Abu Dhabi Automated Slaughterhouse in the Zayed Port area will handle these special requests, while Bani Yas Slaughterhouse and Al Wathba Automated Slaughterhouse will cater to the general public. Al Shahama Automated Slaughter has been designated for requests made through smart applications and by the general public.
To ensure the quality and safety of the meat produced, each slaughterhouse is equipped with specialized veterinary medical staff. These professionals conduct thorough examinations of the animals before slaughtering and inspect the meat afterwards to ensure its suitability for human consumption. The municipality places a high priority on producing healthy and safe meat to protect the health of the community members.
To make the process of selecting and requesting sacrifices easier for the public, the municipality has introduced various smartphone applications such as “Zabehaty”, “Zabayeh Al Jazeera”, ” Dhabayeh UAE”, and ” Halal Mazarana”. These applications allow users to specify the type of sacrifice, its category, weight, cutting preferences, and delivery location, providing a convenient and efficient way to request sacrifices during Eid Al Adha.
Despite the convenience offered by these applications, the municipality urges the public to refrain from slaughtering sacrifices outside the approved slaughterhouses. Such actions are considered violations punishable under the law, and the Inspection Directorate teams in the municipality’s sub-centers are vigilant in monitoring and enforcing these regulations. By following the guidelines and utilizing the designated slaughterhouses, the public can ensure a safe and enjoyable Eid Al Adha celebration.
