The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai recently conducted a comprehensive inspection campaign on 698 developer sites and free zones across the Emirate. The main aim of the campaign was to monitor the occupation of the right-of-way, ensure compliance with regulations, and guarantee the safety of road users. The campaign started at the beginning of the year and included inspections of all free zones and 57 development areas managed by 24 developers in Dubai.
The intensive inspection campaign by RTA is designed to maintain Dubai’s civilised and aesthetic appearance by ensuring the sustainability of the operational condition of roads, facilities, and pavements in development and free zones. The focus was on smooth movement and safety for pedestrians using the right-of-way, as well as preventing obstacles that could impact motorists in these areas. RTA Director of Right-Of-Way, Basil Ibrahim Saad, stated that these inspection campaigns are carried out as part of an annual plan and in response to public complaints and feedback, as required by Law No. 4 of 2021 governing road regulations in Dubai.
RTA has been cooperating and communicating with developers and free zone entities, providing them with the results of these inspection campaigns so they can take necessary corrective actions. Non-compliance could lead to RTA taking legal measures against violators. The inspection teams focused on monitoring abandoned barriers, construction waste, project fences, pedestrian walkways, crossings, billboards, and various issues that could impact road safety. Issues included random scooter parking, illegal refuelling, greenery affecting road safety, groundwater equipment placement, and damage caused by rainwater.
Development entities and free zones have been urged by RTA to adhere to the rules and conditions for using the right-of-way and comply with Dubai’s standards and specifications to ensure the safety of road users and smooth traffic flow in the Emirate. By conducting these inspection campaigns, RTA aims to maintain the high standards of development and free zones in Dubai and enhance the overall traffic and road safety for all users. It is crucial for developers and free zone entities to follow regulations and guidelines set by RTA to create a safe and efficient transportation system in the Emirate.
