UAE motorists will face a maximum fine of Dh10,000 per vehicle annually under the updated terms and conditions of Dubai’s toll gate operator, Salik. The new conditions state that the highest total fines per vehicle for violations related to the Salik tolling system shall not exceed Dh10,000 in any given calendar year. Motorists have the option to contest a toll violation for a passage through a Salik toll gate if it is posted in their traffic file within the last 13 months. However, under the new rules, no Salik account balance or part of the balance will be refunded or transferred to another account.

Salik, the toll gate operator, has expanded its services in Dubai by installing Salik gates at the Dubai Mall under a 5-year agreement. Rates at the mall start from Dh20 per hour to Dh1,000 for 24-hour parking. The company is responsible for designing, financing, developing, installing, and managing the parking payment collection system, while Dubai Mall provides the necessary local infrastructure. With over 4.1 million active registered vehicles, Salik has a high penetration rate in Dubai.

Customers are advised to report any defective tags within 90 days of identifying the issue, and the tag will be replaced at no extra charge. In case of a lost or stolen plate or vehicle, the Salik customer must notify the company immediately to deactivate the Salik Tag associated with the vehicle or plate. Until the company is informed about the loss or theft, it will continue to deduct tolls, payments, fines, or penalties incurred through the use of the plate or vehicle.

A Salik account will become inactive if no tolls, payments, or balance recharges are posted to it for 5 years, resulting in the forfeiture of any remaining balance. The new updates regarding fines and penalties were announced a month ago, ensuring that motorists are aware of the rules and regulations set by the Salik toll gate operator.
