Car rental companies in Dubai can now extend the lifespan of their vehicles by taking advantage of a new initiative launched by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in the emirate. The project initially focuses on light vehicles in the rental business and is optional for companies operating in the car rental industry. The service extension allows companies to undertake required technical inspections to prolong the life of their vehicles based on approved conditions and international practices.
According to current regulations, car rental companies are required to replace manual vehicles after four years and electric ones after six years from the manufacture date of the vehicle. To apply for the service extension, companies can log onto the RTA’s website, review requirements, agree to terms and conditions, select vehicles that have reached their maximum lifespan, choose a service center, date, and time for the life extension test, and attend the scheduled appointment.
If a vehicle fails the test, necessary technical improvements must be made before reapplying for the test, which can be done up to three times. The RTA conducted extensive technical studies and field surveys before launching the service extension for car rental companies, with subsequent phases expected to include other categories of commercial vehicles. The initiative aims to improve vehicle maintenance and safety standards in Dubai’s car rental industry.
Overall, the new service extension initiative by the RTA in Dubai offers car rental companies the opportunity to prolong the lifespan of their vehicles through required technical inspections. By following the guidelines and requirements set by the RTA, companies can apply for the service extension, attend the necessary tests, and ensure the safety and quality of their vehicles for an extended period. This initiative is expected to enhance the maintenance standards in the car rental industry in Dubai and contribute to a safer and more efficient transport system in the emirate.
