A recent scam involving fake Tinder profiles, middlemen, and nightclubs has been uncovered in Dubai, with unsuspecting victims being swindled out of thousands of dirhams each night. The scam starts with women creating fake profiles on dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and others, engaging in conversations with men and luring them to specific nightclubs. Once at the club, the scammers order expensive drinks, leave the victims with hefty bills ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh10,000, and vanish by blocking them on WhatsApp and deleting their social media profiles.

This scam is identified as an extreme form of upselling, where additional products or services are promoted to increase the total bill. The scammers exploit the victims’ trust and inflate bills for their own financial gain. The hospitality industry professionals have noticed a rise in this scam in Dubai, with reports of similar incidents in Europe and the Far East. It has become a concerning trend that preys on unsuspecting individuals looking for companionship or social interaction.

A thorough investigation by Khaleej Times uncovered nearly six nightclubs in upscale areas like Business Bay and Dubai Marina, as well as two key individuals involved in the scam – a nightclub manager and a European woman operating under a fake Tinder profile. By conducting a reverse image search, the woman’s identity was revealed before she could delete her profile. Multiple victims have come forward with similar experiences, where they were led to various bars by this woman, only to end up with massive bills they had no intention of paying.

Cases of victims falling prey to this scam have surfaced on online forums, with individuals sharing their experiences of being tricked into paying for expensive drinks and services they did not request. Despite the slim chances of recovering their money, many are speaking out to warn others and prevent them from falling into the same trap. Some victims have managed to negotiate their bills down after heated arguments, but the scammers continue to target unsuspecting individuals, leaving them with exorbitant bills and no way to hold the perpetrators accountable.

The Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai has declined to comment on the issue, leaving victims and concerned residents wondering what steps can be taken to address and prevent such scams in the future. As the trend continues to grow, it is essential for individuals using dating apps and visiting nightclubs to remain cautious and vigilant against suspicious profiles and potential scams. By staying informed and sharing their experiences, victims can help raise awareness and protect others from falling victim to similar fraudulent activities. It is crucial for authorities to take action and investigate these scams to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors in Dubai’s nightlife scene.
