In recent weeks, there has been a surge in fraudulent websites pretending to be Khaleej Times, a reputable news platform. These websites are utilizing the same design and branding as Khaleej Times in order to deceive readers into engaging with their false content. Through social media posts, these fake websites are attracting unsuspecting individuals with controversial headlines and enticing them to click on links that lead to websites that look identical to Khaleej Times.

The initial wave of bogus articles targeted Dubai-based influencer ‘Mo Vlogs’, with headlines such as “he didn’t know the microphone was on” or he “regretted revealing the truth”. More recently, a similar false narrative was attached to a prominent Emirati businessman. These fake articles are designed to lure readers into clicking on links, which ultimately direct them to trading websites with the intention of defrauding them of their money. It is important for readers to be vigilant and cautious when encountering such content online.

The fake websites mimicking Khaleej Times’ design can easily be identified by discerning readers, as their URLs are different from the official Khaleej Times platform. Khaleej Times only publishes news on their official website www.khaleejtimes.com, as well as their verified social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It is crucial for individuals to avoid clicking on suspicious links and never share personal information or bank details on these fraudulent websites.

Cybercrimes, including the dissemination of fake news, are taken very seriously in the UAE and can result in hefty fines. It is important for residents to be aware of online scams that aim to trick individuals into divulging sensitive information like personal data and bank details. Before clicking on any links or sharing posts on social media, it is vital to verify the authenticity of the source and website to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

As the prevalence of online scams continues to rise, it is crucial for individuals to exercise caution and vigilance while browsing the internet. By scrutinizing a website’s URL and verifying the source of social media posts, readers can protect themselves from falling prey to fraudulent websites posing as legitimate news platforms. It is essential to stay informed and educated about online security measures to ensure a safe and secure online experience.
