UAE airlines’ flights to Japan are operating as scheduled despite the approaching Typhoon Ampil, which is expected to disrupt aviation and public transport operations in the East Asian country. Passengers have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions before heading to airports as there could be changes in flights from the UAE to Japan on Friday once the typhoon hits the destination. The powerful storm is likely to bring heavy rains, strong winds, and landslides to Japan, including its capital Tokyo. From a category 1 hurricane on Thursday, it is expected to reach category 4 on Friday.
Etihad Airways and Emirates have confirmed that their flights to Japan are operating as scheduled. Etihad Airways is closely monitoring the progression of Typhoon Ampil and is prepared to communicate any changes to impacted guests as soon as possible. Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates also mentioned that its flights are unaffected as of Thursday afternoon. Among the local carriers, only Emirates and Etihad Airways operate flights to Japan. However, Japan Airlines announced the cancellation of 191 domestic and international flights on August 16 due to the typhoon.
Japan Airlines revealed that for August 16 after 12 pm, all flights to and from Tokyo Haneda Airport have been cancelled with domestic flight counters at Airport Terminal 1 closing after that time. Decision on flight operations will depend on the latest weather information. Flight information will be reflected in the arrival and departure information search as soon as it is decided. Another airline, ANA, also stated that it would cancel 280 flights on Friday, affecting more than 60,000 passengers. Japan has also suspended train operations, including its bullet trains, on Friday for safety reasons.
Etihad Airways spokesperson emphasized the importance of checking the Flight Tracker for the latest updates for guests traveling to or from Tokyo regularly. The safety and comfort of guests and crew remain the airline’s top priority. Passengers should remain vigilant and informed about the situation and prepare for any possible disruptions in flights and transportation services due to the approaching typhoon. It is advisable to follow updates from the airlines and authorities to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience during this time.
