The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans to construct King Salman Stadium by 2029, a state-of-the-art facility boasting a seating capacity of 92,000 in Riyadh. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the Ministry of Sports are spearheading this project, which will make it one of the largest sports stadiums globally. Set to be the main venue for the Saudi national team and host major sporting events, King Salman Stadium will cover an area exceeding 660,000 square meters and feature a variety of amenities for different sports activities.
The stadium will not only serve as a sports venue but will also include commercial centers and recreational areas, making it an attractive destination for visitors of all ages. The main stadium will have a seating capacity of 92,000, including luxury seating options such as a royal box, hospitality suites, VIP seats, and seats for dignitaries. Sustainable cooling systems will be put in place to ensure the comfort of both the audience and players, while an array of screens will enhance the viewing experience.
Located in the northern part of Riyadh near King Abdulaziz Park, King Salman Stadium will be easily accessible from key city locations such as King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh’s train station, and major road networks. The master plan for the stadium includes a variety of surrounding sports facilities over an area exceeding 360,000 square meters. These facilities will cater to various sports activities, including two training fields, fan zones, an indoor sports hall, an Olympic swimming pool, and outdoor courts for volleyball, basketball, and padel.
The final design for King Salman Stadium, set to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2029, was chosen from several submissions by international companies. The design integrates seamlessly with King Abdulaziz Park and includes green walls and roofs inspired by local architecture, meeting environmental sustainability and green building standards. This iconic sports landmark will not only host major local and international entertainment events but will also enhance the quality of life in Riyadh, boosting the city’s global ranking as one of the world’s most livable cities.
