A delegation from Saudi Arabia, led by Mazin Al-Kahmous, recently attended the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) Plenary Meeting in Beijing, China. The meeting, held from Sep. 24 to 27, saw Al-Kahmous express gratitude to China for hosting such a significant event. The focus of the meeting was on addressing evolving corruption issues, including money laundering and the illicit use of virtual currencies. Al-Kahmous reiterated the commitment of the Saudi leadership to enhancing cooperation in the fight against transnational corruption by pursuing corrupt individuals and tracking the funds obtained through their actions.
During the meeting, Al-Kahmous highlighted the benefits that the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority has received from being a part of the GlobE Network. The GlobE Network was initially proposed by Saudi Arabia during the G20 Summit ministerial meeting in 2020 and was officially adopted by the UN on Dec. 17, 2021. In terms of leadership within the network, Spain has been appointed as the chair of the network’s Steering Committee, while Saudi Arabia serves as vice chair. The network has seen significant growth over the past three years, with 219 anti-corruption agencies and international organizations from over 120 countries joining.
