Over 140 countries back Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 World Cup

SAFF president Yasser Al-Misehal announced that Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2034 has received support from over 140 countries, showing the international community’s confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to host the event. Al-Misehal stated that Saudi Arabia is gearing up to host the largest edition of the World Cup ever held in a single country, with complete coordination among government sectors to ensure its success. Saudi Vision 2030 has played a significant role in driving development and showcasing the country to the world, making the World Cup a grand dream for the Saudi community.

The bid committee for the 2034 World Cup, led by Hammad Al-Balawi, highlighted the Kingdom’s ambition to be the first country to host the tournament alone in its new format. Al-Balawi emphasized the job opportunities that hosting the World Cup will create for Saudi citizens, with 80% of the population being sports enthusiasts, particularly football fans. The plan includes hosting the opening and final matches of the tournament in Riyadh, with a maximum travel time of two hours for fans within the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 World Cup includes five host cities and 15 world-class stadiums, as well as plans for a railway network connecting various regions of the Kingdom with Gulf countries. The bid committee is working closely with FIFA to showcase Saudi Arabia’s readiness to host the global event, with a FIFA team set to visit the host cities as part of the evaluation process. The Kingdom is also preparing a highly capable national team to represent Saudi Arabia in the 2034 World Cup.

The upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027 in Saudi Arabia will provide an opportunity to test new sports stadiums that will benefit future generations. The bid committee is confident in the support received from the wise leadership for hosting the World Cup and is committed to delivering the best edition in the history of the tournament.
