Saudi Arabia has been a significant donor to Gaza, with donations exceeding $185 million according to Deputy Foreign Minister Eng. Walid Al-Kheraiji. Speaking at the 50th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Yaoundé, Cameroon, he condemned the Israeli occupation forces for their crimes against the Palestinian people. Al-Kheraiji highlighted Saudi Arabia’s ongoing relief aid efforts in Gaza, including the popular campaign launched by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid. The Kingdom has also been instrumental in efforts to stop Israeli aggression and gain recognition for the State of Palestine by Western countries.
In addition to addressing the situation in Gaza, Al-Kheraiji also touched upon Saudi Arabia’s positions on the crises in Sudan and Yemen. The Kingdom is committed to preserving the security and stability of Sudan through dialogue among the parties involved in the crisis. In Yemen, Saudi Arabia supports efforts to resolve the conflict and achieve peace, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive political solution to end the war. Al-Kheraiji warned of the danger of escalation in the Red Sea region, which could threaten international navigation corridors and the global economy, and stressed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting humanitarian issues and providing development support to friendly countries.
At the OIC Donors Conference to be hosted by Saudi Arabia in October 2024, member states, institutions, and international donor partners will come together to discuss important issues. Al-Kheraiji also mentioned the Kingdom’s collaboration with Maldives to hold a joint conference on enhancing integrity in the tourism sector, in line with the goals of joint Islamic action. He encouraged agencies responsible for combating corruption and promoting tourism in OIC member states to participate in this conference. Saudi Arabia remains dedicated to serving humanitarian causes and supporting development initiatives for the growth and prosperity of the region and the world.
