Utkalika Qatar celebrates the 89th anniversary of Odisha’s foundation

Utkalika Qatar recently celebrated the 89th Odisha foundation day in Doha, Qatar. The cultural evening event took place at the Holiday Villa hotel and was attended by over 200 people. The Deputy Chief of Mission of India to Qatar, Sandeep Kumar, inaugurated the event. The keynote speaker, Smt. Jayati Maitra, praised Utkalika Qatar for their efforts in preserving the culture and heritage of Odisha. The president of Utkalika Qatar, Dr. Basanta Kumar Kabi, emphasized the cultural diversity and traditions of Odisha.

The cultural evening recognized children and members for their participation in various programs conducted by the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in the preceding year. The Chief guest and Management Committee members also inaugurated the annual souvenir ‘Barnali’ and presented the ‘Utkalika Karma Veera award’ 2024 to Deepika Nayak, Deepak Kumar Swain, and Jyotirmaya Rout. The event was led by Utkalika general secretary Abinash Acharya, vice-president Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, joint secretary Ipsita Sathpathy, cultural secretary Sagar Mohanty, and joint cultural secretary Omprakash Parida.

The celebration of Odisha’s foundation day highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage and traditions. The event showcased the rich cultural tapestry of Odisha, which is woven with threads of diversity and tradition. Utkalika Qatar was commended for its efforts in promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of Odisha. The event also aimed to strengthen the bond among the Odia community in Qatar and promote unity and harmony.

The recognition of children and members for their participation in cultural programs by the ICC reflects the commitment of the community to uphold and promote Odisha’s cultural heritage. The presentation of the ‘Utkalika Karma Veera award’ to deserving individuals acknowledges their contributions to preserving and promoting Odisha’s culture. The event served as a platform for members of the community to come together and celebrate their shared heritage, fostering a sense of belonging and pride.

The presence of key dignitaries, such as the Deputy Chief of Mission of India to Qatar, added significance to the celebration of Odisha’s foundation day.
