Turkey praises Gaza initiative | The Peninsula Qatar

Turkiye has expressed its support for a joint statement by the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States calling for a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. The Turkish Foreign Ministry commended the mediation efforts of these nations and emphasized the importance of implementing key issues outlined in the statement. The Ministry also highlighted the three-phase plan detailed in UN Security Council Resolution No. 2735 as a viable foundation for peace, urging Israel to demonstrate a constructive stance similar to that of the Palestinians regarding the ceasefire.

The joint statement by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and US President Joe Biden emphasized the need to end the suffering of the people of Gaza and secure the release of hostages and detainees. The leaders noted significant progress in reaching a framework agreement, with only implementation details remaining to be finalized. They also expressed readiness to mediate and proposed reconvening on August 15 in Doha or Cairo to resolve remaining differences and promptly implement the agreement.

Turkiye reiterated its support for the efforts of the three nations to secure a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Ministry called for the international community to pressure Israel to comply with the agreement and urged Israel to show a constructive attitude towards the ceasefire, similar to that of the Palestinians. The implementation of the UN Security Council resolution was highlighted as a crucial step towards peace in the region.
