The 16th edition of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival, known as Marmi 2025, is set to take place from January 28 to February 1, 2025, at Marmi area in Sealine. Under the patronage of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the festival is organised by the Qatari Society of Algannas and supported by the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM). It aims to preserve the legacy of falconry, which is recognized as one of the most distinguished festivals in the region and the world. The festival is dedicated to showcasing the art of falconry and promoting Qatar’s cultural heritage.
One of the main highlights of this year’s festival is the Haddad Al Tahaddi contest, specifically designed for young falcons. The contest involves the release of a racing pigeon, followed by the hunting falcon trying to pursue or trap the pigeon. The winner of the contest will receive a grand prize of QR100,000 and a chance to compete for a luxury Lexus car in the final round. With 23 participating groups, the festival aims to revive the tradition of real hunting with falcons, particularly through the Al Talaa championship, which emphasizes authentic hunting practices.
The festival’s preparation and events committee, headed by Saeed Rashid Al Nuaimi, is dedicated to ensuring that the venue and activities of the event meet the highest standards. The venue is fully equipped with directional flags leading to the site, VIP tents, guest accommodations, and giant screens for race viewing. Commercial outlets offering a variety of services for hunting enthusiasts and the public have been set up, including falconry equipment, travel gear, vehicle accessories, traditional headwear, and food and beverage options. The committee aims to provide a memorable and enjoyable experience for visitors and tourists attending the festival.
The event has gained significant support from various institutions, including the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Municipality, Internal Security Force “Lekhwiya”, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), DAAM, Alkass sports channels, and other contributors. These institutions have played an essential role in ensuring the success of the festival and promoting Qatar’s cultural heritage on a global scale. The festival not only celebrates the art of falconry but also showcases Qatar’s rich history and traditions, attracting visitors from around the world.
