The Minister of Social Development and Family in Doha, Qatar, HE Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, has announced the initiation of preparations to establish the “Qatar Social Observatory.” This initiative aims to enhance Qatar’s ability to monitor social phenomena affecting families and society. The observatory is described as a scientific tool that will help develop the skills of national talent in social and humanitarian research fields. A strategic partnership with the National Planning Council and the Ibn Khaldon Center at Qatar University will play a crucial role in supporting and guiding the project towards its national objectives.
By setting up a dedicated electronic page on the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s website, individuals will be able to easily communicate with the observatory by submitting social observations or reports. Three primary monitoring mechanisms, including field monitoring through surveys, digital monitoring with advanced programs, and direct interviews and community dialogues, will be utilized to enhance the observatory’s effectiveness and development. The close cooperation with the National Planning Council and the Ibn Khaldon Center at Qatar University will further strengthen the operations of the observatory.
HE Secretary-General of the National Planning Council, Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, highlighted the Council’s role in supporting and implementing the Qatar Social Observatory. This initiative will serve as an essential tool for analyzing social data and providing a scientific basis for the development of social policies and national plans, contributing to cohesive efforts towards sustainable development goals. The Council’s mission aligns with the Third National Development Strategy of the State of Qatar 2024-2030, emphasizing strategic partnerships to promote national initiatives that support Qatar’s social development objectives outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Council is fully committed to supporting the Qatar Social Observatory and taking practical measures to ensure its sustainability. By enriching integrated development efforts, achieving ambitious national outcomes, and advancing the social development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, the observatory aims to provide early warnings to decision-makers regarding social challenges, enabling effective intervention and solutions. The scientific collection of information and data supports community-targeted research and programs, enhancing the community’s capacity to proactively address social challenges and contribute to Qatar’s cohesive social development objectives.
