The new Qatar Space Radio Monitoring Center (SRMC) was inaugurated by Minister of Communications and Information Technology HE Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The launch of the SRMC marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance space radio spectrum management, showing a commitment to advancing satellite communications infrastructure and maintaining an interference-free spectrum. The event was attended by a number of Ministers of Communications and Post from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as well as senior officials from Qatar and abroad, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The SRMC, operated by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is the first regulatory body globally to integrate the Mobile Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) Geolocation tool. This tool enables the tracking of mobile VSAT terminals, ensuring compliance and eliminating interference in satellite operations. The monitoring capabilities of the SRMC extend to both terrestrial and space transmissions, enhancing Qatar’s role in global space communications. President of the CRA, Eng. Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, emphasized the importance of the launch of the SRMC in advancing space radio spectrum management and supporting innovation and economic growth in line with Qatar’s national development strategies.
The SRMC includes state-of-the-art technologies such as an antenna farm, mobile monitoring station, and drone spectrum monitoring system, all of which enhance CRA’s ability to identify and resolve interference issues. The center covers 20,000 square meters in Markhiyat Al Darb area and features an advanced control center, mobile monitoring station, and drone monitoring unit that work together to support satellite communications in Qatar in a safe and uninterrupted manner. The integration of these technologies strengthens Qatar’s ability to manage its space radio spectrum effectively, positioning the country as a key player in global satellite communications.
The launch of the SRMC reinforces Qatar’s commitment to technological advancement and strategic progress, aligning with the CRA Strategy, Qatar National Vision 2030, and the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030. The center’s role is pivotal in various sectors including telecommunications and satellite-based services, ensuring seamless and secure communications. With cutting-edge technology designed to monitor and regulate satellite communications, the SRMC enhances Qatar’s ability to manage its space radio spectrum and maintain interference-free communications across different sectors.
Overall, the inauguration of the Qatar Space Radio Monitoring Center represents a significant step towards enhancing the country’s ability to manage and regulate space radio frequencies. The integration of cutting-edge technologies at the SRMC demonstrates Qatar’s commitment to advancing satellite communications infrastructure and maintaining an interference-free spectrum. This development not only supports innovation and economic growth but also aligns with Qatar’s national development strategies and reinforces the country’s commitment to technological advancement and strategic progress in the field of global satellite communications. The SRMC’s monitoring capabilities and integrated systems position Qatar as a key player in the realm of satellite communications, ensuring stable and uninterrupted communication services.
