On June 26, 2024, students from AFG College with the University of Aberdeen in Doha joined their counterparts from the main campus in Aberdeen, Scotland to receive their degrees at the University of Aberdeen graduation ceremony. These students had successfully completed various undergraduate and postgraduate programs, meeting all necessary requirements. Abdulla Al Suabiey, one of the graduating students, expressed his pride and excitement at finally achieving his degree after four years of hard work, especially amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AFG College Principal, Brian Buckley, also attended the ceremony in Aberdeen and highlighted the significance of the partnership between the two campuses. He expressed his pride in seeing the graduates receive their degrees and emphasized the continued success of the partnership since its inception in 2017. Buckley looks forward to the future success of the graduates, recognizing their dedication and hard work in achieving their academic goals.

In addition to the AFG College graduates, former British Ambassador to Qatar, Jon Wilks CMG, was honored by the University of Aberdeen with an honorary doctorate for his outstanding contributions to public service and his efforts in building bridges between the West and the Middle East. Jon expressed his delight at receiving this prestigious honor and reiterated his commitment to supporting international collaborations, including the campus in Qatar.

The event in Aberdeen brought together students from diverse nationalities, symbolizing the unity and accomplishment of the graduating class. It was a special day not only for the graduates but also for their families and friends who were able to share in their joy and success. The ceremony served as a reminder of the dedication and resilience of the students, who overcame various challenges to reach this important milestone in their academic journey.

Looking ahead, AFG College with the University of Aberdeen will be hosting its own graduation ceremony in Doha this November for graduates who could not attend the ceremony in Scotland. This event will provide an opportunity for the remaining students to celebrate their achievements and be recognized for their hard work and commitment to their education. The success of the graduates in Aberdeen serves as a testament to the high-quality education and support provided by AFG College and the University of Aberdeen in preparing students for their future endeavors.

Overall, the joint graduation ceremony in Aberdeen was a momentous occasion that celebrated the accomplishments of the AFG College students and highlighted the strong partnership between the Qatar and Scotland campuses. The event not only honored the graduates for their academic achievements but also recognized individuals like Jon Wilks for their exemplary contributions to society. As the graduates move forward into the next chapter of their lives, they carry with them the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained through their education at AFG College with the University of Aberdeen.
