The State of Qatar has once again called for the UN Security Council to recommend full membership for the State of Palestine in the UN. This plea was made during the resumed 10th emergency special session of the General Assembly, where a historic draft resolution supporting Palestine’s right to full membership was adopted by an overwhelming majority. Qatar expressed its pride in this decision and gratitude to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution. The State of Qatar believes that Palestine meets all the required criteria for membership and that this decision is a significant victory for the Palestinian people.

Accepting the State of Palestine as a full member state aligns with the principles of the United Nations and international legitimacy resolutions. It is seen as a crucial step towards achieving a two-state solution and a just and comprehensive political settlement of the Palestinian issue. Qatar emphasized the importance of international action to prevent Israeli aggression in Gaza, including bombings and threats of displacement. The State of Qatar condemns these actions and calls for full protection of civilians under international law and humanitarian law.

Despite the recent achievement in supporting Palestine, Qatar remains committed to mediation efforts in partnership with Egypt and the United States. The goal is to secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, release prisoners and detainees, and provide continuous humanitarian aid. Qatar also calls for a serious political process leading to a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue. The State reaffirmed its historical support for the resilience of the Palestinian people and their just cause, in alignment with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, highlighted the importance of the Security Council taking a unified stance to recommend the membership of the State of Palestine. This decision is not just a symbolic gesture but a crucial step towards achieving peace in the region. The endorsement of Palestine as a full member state would uphold the principles of self-determination, equal rights among peoples, and equality in sovereignty.

Qatar’s condemnation of Israeli aggression in Gaza reflects its longstanding commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. The State of Qatar firmly believes that the Israeli occupation forces’ actions violate international law, Security Council resolutions, and the International Court of Justice. Qatar calls for urgent international action to prevent further harm to civilians in Gaza and to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.

In conclusion, Qatar’s continued advocacy for the State of Palestine’s full membership in the UN demonstrates its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights. The State of Qatar is dedicated to pursuing peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict and believes that a just and comprehensive settlement is achievable through international cooperation and diplomacy. By standing up for the rights of Palestinians and condemning acts of aggression, Qatar remains a crucial voice for peace and justice in the Middle East.
