Celebrating World Tourism Day, Qatar Rail and Stopover Tourism presented three new sustainable city tours that utilize the Qatar Rail metro system as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. These tours align with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainability and responsible development in the tourism industry. The first tour, Discover the City of Doha—by the Metro, takes visitors to iconic landmarks like Westbay, Katara Cultural Village, and the National Museum of Qatar using sustainable transportation. The second tour, Sports City: Doha’s Athletic Wonders—by the Metro, showcases significant sports venues such as Khalifa International Stadium and Aspire Dome. The final tour, Education City and Mall of Qatar—by the Metro, offers visits to the Qatar National Library and Education City Mosque, emphasizing education, culture, and leisure with an eco-friendly approach.

The tours were developed by award-winning guide Pia Sundstedt, known for her cultural expertise and ability to create engaging experiences for tourists. Sundstedt highlighted the tours as a way to showcase Qatar’s blend of modernity and tradition while promoting sustainable travel practices. By utilizing the metro system, visitors can not only experience efficient public transport but also contribute to a more environmentally friendly tourism experience. It is believed that these tours will enable visitors to engage with Qatar in a meaningful and responsible manner. Noora Hoosen, Director of Sales and Operations for Stopover Tourism, emphasized the significance of the collaboration with Qatar Rail, stating that the new sustainable tours align with the company’s focus on product development and sustainability-driven travel solutions. By offering eco-friendly tours, they aim to support Qatar’s sustainability goals and preserve its cultural and environmental heritage for future generations.

The tour Discover the City of Doha—by the Metro, includes visits to historical and contemporary landmarks like Msheireb Downtown and Souq Waqif, providing a comprehensive overview of Doha’s cultural offerings. The Sports City: Doha’s Athletic Wonders—by the Metro tour focuses on Qatar’s sports infrastructure, showcasing venues like Aspire Park and Villagio Mall that highlight the country’s commitment to sustainability in sports. The Education City and Mall of Qatar—by the Metro tour integrates education, culture, and leisure by including stops at the Qatar National Library and Education City Mosque before concluding at the Mall of Qatar. Each tour was carefully designed to offer visitors a well-rounded experience of Qatar’s attractions while promoting sustainable travel practices.

These sustainable city tours aim to provide visitors with a unique and responsible way to explore Qatar’s rich cultural and natural attractions. By utilizing the Qatar Rail metro system, tourists can enjoy convenient and eco-friendly transportation while learning about the country’s history, sports infrastructure, and educational institutions. The collaboration between Qatar Rail and Stopover Tourism reflects a shared commitment to promoting sustainable tourism practices and supporting Qatar’s vision for responsible development. Through initiatives like these tours, Qatar continues to position itself as a leading destination for eco-conscious travelers looking to experience the best that the country has to offer in a sustainable and meaningful way.
