Qatar recently participated in the 2024 Global Education Meeting hosted by Unesco in Fortaleza, Brazil. Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi led Qatar’s delegation at the meeting, which focused on evaluating progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) on quality education. During the meeting, the Minister took part in two high-level ministerial sessions, discussing early childhood education, foundational education, equitable access, quality, and mobility in higher education. She highlighted Qatar’s achievements and recent advancements in these areas.
In the first session, the Minister detailed Qatar’s efforts to provide quality education across all levels, with a particular focus on early childhood education. She highlighted the country’s investment in child-centred educational programmes that develop essential skills such as communication, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. The Minister also emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to improving primary education through curriculum evaluation and optimal investment in human resources to enhance learning outcomes.
During the second session, the Minister discussed Qatar’s initiatives to expand access to higher education and maintain quality standards. These efforts align with Qatar’s third National Development Strategy and the Education Strategy 2024-2030. The Minister highlighted initiatives like the “My Journey in Post-Secondary Education” programme, which provides effective academic guidance and strengthens the alignment of educational qualifications with labour market needs. These initiatives aim to improve the overall quality of higher education in the country.
Aside from participating in the ministerial sessions, the Minister also visited an exhibit organized by the National Cybersecurity Agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science. The exhibit, titled “Accelerating the Achievement of SDG 4,” showcased Qatar’s progress in educational transformation and highlighted initiatives towards achieving this goal. The Minister’s visit to the exhibit further underscored Qatar’s commitment to improving education and achieving SDG 4.
Overall, Qatar’s participation in the Global Education Meeting reaffirmed the country’s commitment to quality education and its efforts to align with international standards and goals.
