Qatar attends the 38th General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development

The State of Qatar recently participated in the 38th General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Qatari delegation, led by HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, highlighted the country’s progress in food security and agricultural production. Over the past five years, Qatar has seen significant growth in fresh vegetable production, achieving a 98 percent increase, and reaching 100 percent self-sufficiency in animal products such as fresh milk, dairy, and poultry. The state has also focused on developing the fish production sector, particularly through programs like the “Aquatic Research Center”.

Qatar is committed to enhancing joint efforts and providing support to agricultural projects in line with its food security plans and national development strategy. Minister Al Attiyah underscored the importance of continued cooperation among Arab states to address challenges facing the agriculture and food security sector globally. He praised Saudi Arabia for hosting the General Assembly and highlighted the crucial role of AOAD in promoting collaboration among Arab nations. The Minister emphasized the need for joint action to maintain the progress made in recent years and strengthen food security systems in the region.

The Ministerial Committee formed for Arab food security discussed various decisions during the Assembly, focusing on enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences among member states. Minister Al Attiyah reiterated the importance of working together to achieve food security and sustainable development for Arab nations. He emphasized the significance of maintaining food production and supply chains in light of disruptions caused by global developments. The Minister called for increased collaboration to address these challenges and ensure the stability of food security systems in the region.

The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development plays a vital role in supporting joint Arab action and addressing the evolving challenges in the agriculture sector. Minister Al Attiyah highlighted the organization’s efforts in promoting cooperation and exchange of experiences among member states to achieve common goals in food security. He stressed the importance of adhering to national development strategies and the Qatar National Vision 2030 to guide agricultural policies and investments. The Minister reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to enhancing agricultural production and sustainability through continued support and strategic partnerships with other Arab countries.

In conclusion, Qatar’s participation in the 38th General Assembly of AOAD underscores its commitment to enhancing food security and agricultural production in the region.
