The State of Qatar aims to strengthen the link between intellectual property and sports to benefit from the legacy of major sporting events like the World Cup. Additionally, Qatar hosted the International Mediation and Arbitration Conference in 2024, in partnership with WIPO, to facilitate knowledge exchange and cooperation among intellectual property and mediation experts.
The upcoming second edition of the International Mediation and Arbitration Conference in 2025 at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) level will address emerging challenges in the region regarding intellectual property mediation and arbitration. Qatar’s active participation in WIPO committees and conferences, such as the recent Diplomatic Conference on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources, and Traditional Knowledge, showcases its commitment to international agreements and legal frameworks for intellectual property rights.
Qatar’s ongoing support for initiatives like the Design Law Treaty (DLT) aims to simplify global systems for protecting industrial designs and promoting easier access for designers to local and foreign markets. The State of Qatar also advocates for multilateral agreements to protect the broadcasting rights of organizations internationally. Qatar’s presidency of several WIPO committees demonstrates its commitment to advancing intellectual property protection and cooperation within the organization.
