Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Doha, Qatar, has recently opened the Medical Care and Research Center (MCRC), a state-of-the-art facility that aims to enhance healthcare services and provide specialized care to patients at the highest global quality standards. The 250-bed center offers a healing environment for inpatients and promotes therapeutic practices through clinical precision medicine and genomics. This approach allows doctors and researchers to develop medical treatments based on individual patient characteristics, leading to more accurate treatment strategies and reduced risks of adverse reactions.
The MCRC supports and conducts clinical trials in precision medicine, providing access to precision care across all major and sub-specialties offered by HMC. Located at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, the center consists of four floors and includes various patient rooms, isolation rooms, and specialized clinics. Connected to three specialized care hospitals, the MCRC facilitates access to specialized care, diagnostic services, and laboratory facilities.
The center houses high-quality clinical units, including the Clinical Trials Unit, which focuses on evaluating new medical strategies, treatments, and devices in human subjects. Additionally, the Center for Clinical Precision Medicine and Genomics develops specialized medical treatments tailored to individual patient characteristics. The MCRC also provides specialized care for children with a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a High Dependency Unit, and a Pediatric Daycare Unit.
A dedicated Acute Geriatrics Unit addresses acute illnesses in geriatric patients, while a modern Palliative Care Unit offers a comforting environment for patients and their families. The center also includes an outpatient unit for prosthetics patients and a range of support services such as a pharmacy, ambulance ramp, physiotherapy gym, waiting areas, and multi-purpose rooms. Overall, the MCRC aims to deliver the highest quality of care and promote well-being for the community.
Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, HMC’s Chief Medical Officer, highlighted the center’s role in advancing healthcare and medical research to improve patient outcomes. By conducting research and clinical trials, HMC will provide a personalized approach to patient care, predicting treatment and prevention strategies based on genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Dr. Jassim Al Suwaidi, HMC’s Chief of Scientific, Academic, and Faculty Affairs, emphasized the MCRC’s commitment to individualized medical care and conducting clinical research trials in collaboration with international experts.
The MCRC represents a significant milestone in HMC’s commitment to leadership in healthcare and medical research, enhancing patient outcomes and promoting community well-being. By utilizing precision medicine and genomics, the center aims to provide personalized healthcare to the population of Qatar, predicting treatment and prevention strategies for specific diseases. With a focus on clinical trials and research, the MCRC contributes to the advancement of healthcare practices and establishes partnerships with experts to meet the healthcare needs of Qatar’s population.
