Chairperson of Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), H E Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, has commended the efforts dedicated to safeguarding workers’ rights in Qatar. She emphasized the importance of upgrading humanitarian conditions for workers in various human rights, health, and humanitarian fields. As part of their initiatives for International Workers’ Day, the NHRC plans to organize a seminar with labor-intensive communities to address challenges faced by workers. This seminar will serve as a prelude to a labor campaign focused on workers’ health, with the goal of raising awareness on the importance of protection from traumas, health insurance rights, and heat stress risks.

Protection from workplace trauma is a crucial aspect of occupational health and safety management. This involves implementing preventive measures to prevent work accidents and occupational diseases, providing necessary protective equipment for workers, offering training to mitigate risks, and conducting regular monitoring to ensure compliance with safety requirements. Al Attiyah highlighted the NHRC’s commitment to raising awareness on workers’ right to health insurance and ensuring access to appropriate healthcare services. The organization aims to regulate healthcare services in Qatar to provide high-quality healthcare in both the public and private sectors, ultimately improving the population’s health and optimizing healthcare utilization.

In addition to promoting workers’ rights to health insurance, the NHRC’s campaign will focus on raising awareness about heat stress risks. The organization intends to adhere to the cabinet decision No. 17 of 2021, which outlines precautionary measures to protect workers from heat stress during the months of June to September. This includes setting working hours for outdoor jobs that require exposure to sunlight and ensuring that work is not conducted between 10am and 3:30pm. By addressing heat stress risks and implementing necessary precautions, the NHRC aims to enhance the overall well-being and safety of workers in Qatar.

Overall, the NHRC’s efforts to safeguard workers’ rights and improve their living and working conditions reflect a commitment to upholding human rights and promoting a culture of respect and dignity for all. Through initiatives such as the upcoming labor campaign focused on workers’ health, the organization is working towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for workers in Qatar. By prioritizing the protection of workers from workplace traumas, promoting access to health insurance, and addressing heat stress risks, the NHRC is actively advocating for the rights and well-being of all workers in the country.

The NHRC’s commitment to raising awareness and implementing measures to protect workers’ rights aligns with global efforts to promote fair labor practices and ensure the safety and well-being of all workers. By collaborating with labor-intensive communities and stakeholders, the NHRC is able to address the most pressing challenges faced by workers in Qatar and work towards sustainable solutions. Through continued advocacy and action, the NHRC is contributing to the advancement of human rights and the promotion of a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
