The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) partnered with Qatar University to host an open day event as part of the 4th edition of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad 2024, which Qatar is hosting for the first time. The event, themed “Qatar Day for Mathematics,” aimed at professional development and the exchange of experiences in the field of mathematics education. Speakers and lecturers from various higher education institutions in Qatar presented the latest technologies and modern methods in educational research in mathematics.
Two main programs were included in the open day activities – one for team leaders and assistants and another for participating students. A total of 12 scientific lectures on mathematical research and nine specialized training workshops were conducted by faculty members from Qatar University and mathematics teachers from public schools. The event also featured scientific dialogue sessions led by mathematics experts nominated by ALECSO and professors from Qatar University and the Community College, as well as a STEM Projects exhibition for students from both public and private schools.
The open day also showcased lectures and training workshops by Arab mathematics scholars from outside Qatar. The goal of these activities was to engage talented Arab students in mathematics, foster creativity, and build confidence by involving them in a distinguished scientific event that enhances their academic abilities. The Assistant Director of Educational Guidance and General Coordinator of the Olympiad Committees, Fatima Al Rashed, emphasized the importance of the open day activities in promoting creativity and confidence among participating students.
