The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) partnered with Qatar University to host an open day event as part of the 4th edition of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad 2024, which Qatar is hosting for the first time. The event, themed “Qatar Day for Mathematics,” aimed at professional development and the exchange of experiences in the field of mathematics education. Speakers and lecturers from various higher education institutions in Qatar presented the latest technologies and modern methods in educational research in mathematics.

Two main programs were included in the open day activities – one for team leaders and assistants and another for participating students. A total of 12 scientific lectures on mathematical research and nine specialized training workshops were conducted by faculty members from Qatar University and mathematics teachers from public schools. The event also featured scientific dialogue sessions led by mathematics experts nominated by ALECSO and professors from Qatar University and the Community College, as well as a STEM Projects exhibition for students from both public and private schools.

The open day also showcased lectures and training workshops by Arab mathematics scholars from outside Qatar. The goal of these activities was to engage talented Arab students in mathematics, foster creativity, and build confidence by involving them in a distinguished scientific event that enhances their academic abilities. The event aimed to provide students with exposure to the latest advancements in mathematical research and teaching methodologies, ultimately contributing to their overall academic growth.

The Assistant Director of Educational Guidance and General Coordinator of the Olympiad Committees, Fatima Al Rashed, emphasized the importance of the open day activities in promoting creativity and confidence among participating students. By bringing together talented Arab students in mathematics and providing them with a platform to showcase their skills, the event aimed to inspire and motivate students to excel in the field. The involvement of mathematics experts and professors from various institutions added depth to the event and provided students with valuable insights and knowledge in the field of mathematics.

The participation of both public and private school students in the STEM Projects exhibition and the opportunity to attend lectures and workshops by esteemed mathematics scholars created a unique learning environment for all attendees. The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking among professionals and students in the field of mathematics. By focusing on professional development and educational research in mathematics, the open day event contributed to the overall growth and advancement of mathematics education in Qatar.

In conclusion, the open day event organized as part of the 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad was a successful initiative to promote excellence in mathematics education and foster creativity among talented Arab students. By showcasing the latest technologies and teaching methodologies in mathematics, the event provided a valuable learning experience for students and professionals alike. The exchange of experiences and knowledge among participants from various institutions contributed to the overall enhancement of mathematics education in Qatar. Moving forward, similar events and initiatives are essential to continue promoting academic growth and excellence in the field of mathematics.
