The Urology Department at Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH) in Doha, Qatar recently organized a workshop on urolithiasis for Arab Board Urology Surgery trainees. The workshop, which took place from May 23 to May 25, included HMC leaders, specialized urologists, and local and international trainees in attendance. Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, HMC’s Chief Medical Officer, highlighted the Corporation’s dedication to improving the expertise of medical and nursing staff across all specialties by offering the latest techniques and treatment practices to enhance the quality of healthcare for patients.
Dr. Ahmed Al Mohammed, Medical Director of Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, praised the workshop as an important event in the Urology Department’s journey of medical accomplishments. The department has performed a high number of surgeries and received accreditation from the North Carolina Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as an outstanding surgical department for urinary stone treatment. Dr. Aisha Al Ghafri, Acting Executive Director of Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, emphasized the importance of gathering urologists and trainees to discuss the latest medical techniques in urolithiasis surgery to provide more advanced treatment options for patients and share new expertise with trainees.
Throughout the three-day workshop, scientific sessions included presentations and discussions on the latest techniques in urolithiasis surgery. Dr. Morshed Ali Salah, Head of Urology and Surgery Departments at HMGH, noted that the workshop targeted Arab Board trainees from Qatar and abroad. The first day featured simulations of endoscopic stone fragmentation operations using laser on human body models, while the second day included lectures on urinary stone formation, treatment, and prevention methods. The final day consisted of stone fragmentation and extraction operations using endoscopy, surgical robots, and lasers.
The workshop aims to enhance the medical services provided by HMC to patients with urinary stones and benefit Arab Board trainees from Qatar, Sudan, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, and Pakistan. The Urology Department at HMGH has a track record of success, performing 1755 surgeries in 2023 and receiving accreditation from the North Carolina Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as an outstanding surgical department for urinary stone treatment in the same year. Dr. Salah emphasized the importance of providing valuable insights and knowledge sharing opportunities for medical professionals to stay updated on the latest developments in urolithiasis treatment practices.
