The first summit between leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and member states of the European Union (EU) is set to take place in Brussels, marking a historical milestone in their strategic partnership. Ambassador of Qatar to the European Union and NATO, H E Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Jehani Al Malki, emphasized the significance of this summit, highlighting the joint commitment to strengthening relations amidst regional and international challenges. The summit will address various pressing issues, including security, stability, trade, investment, climate change, industry, energy security, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and innovation.

The GCC-EU summit will also focus on reducing carbon emissions, transitioning to a green economy, combating terrorism, and addressing the European Union entry visa “Schengen”. Regional issues of mutual interest will be a key focus, with leaders discussing cooperation and unifying visions to develop solutions to crises in the region. The joint communique is expected to cover all these issues, with outcomes aimed at strengthening the relationship between GCC countries and the European Union, transforming discussions into future projects and visions.

Ambassador Al Malki emphasized the importance of peace, security, political solutions, and negotiations in resolving crises, as these factors are essential for economic growth and stability. He highlighted the impact of political stability on the global economy, emphasizing the need for a strong joint communique at the upcoming summit to send a message to the international community about the importance of resolving crises. The State of Qatar is committed to promoting peace and stability as the basis for economic stability, with a focus on political solutions as a means to address conflicts and challenges.

The summit will also provide an opportunity for GCC countries and the European Union to build upon their existing relationship through joint meetings, bilateral committees, political consultations, visits of senior officials, and economic and trade discussions. The Ambassador highlighted the ongoing contact between GCC countries and the European Union throughout the year, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining strong ties and cooperation. The summit is expected to address various regional and international issues, with a focus on multi-faceted collaboration and dialogue to address pressing challenges and promote collective solutions.

In conclusion, the GCC-EU summit represents a significant step towards strengthening the strategic partnership between Gulf Cooperation Council countries and member states of the European Union.
