The Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University recently wrapped up its eighth annual Summer Research Program (SRP) with a commendation ceremony. The program, which ran from May 19 to July 18, included 14 undergraduate students from prestigious institutions like Qatar University, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and the University of Calgary in Qatar. Participants had the opportunity to work closely with leading scientists in QBRI’s cutting-edge laboratories, focusing on research projects in areas such as diabetes, cancer, and neurological disorders.
Aside from laboratory work, students engaged in professional development activities and workshops designed to enhance their skills in data presentation, experimental design, scientific paper writing, reproducibility, and open science. This holistic approach ensured that participants gained a well-rounded and immersive learning experience. Gana Alnajjar from CMU-Q expressed her gratitude for the program’s transformative effect on her understanding of the field, while Eman Alijla from QU appreciated the support and resources provided.
Dr. Omar Albagha, Acting Executive Director of QBRI, emphasized the program’s importance in fostering the next generation of researchers. By equipping students with essential skills and practical experience, QBRI aims to nurture their personal and professional growth while exposing them to the diverse career opportunities available in the field of biomedical science.
