Fire Station: Artist in Residence has announced the open call for its two prestigious residency programs, the 2024 New York Residency programme and the 2024 Paris Residency programme. These three-month programs offer a unique opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their talent on an international platform. The applications for these programs will remain open until November 2, 2024, providing selected artists with immersive experiences in the vibrant artistic scenes of New York and Paris.
The Fire Station’s Artist in Residence program, now in its ninth edition, has expanded to include partnerships with the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York City and the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. These collaborations aim to encourage artists to engage with the international art community, explore diverse cultural perspectives, and develop their creative practices. The Director of Fire Station, Khalifa Al Obaidly, expressed excitement about the opportunities that these programs provide for resident artists in Qatar to refine their skills and gain international exposure.
Selected artists will have 24-hour access to private furnished studio spaces, communal facilities, and regular studio visits from guest critics during their residency. They will also have the chance to go on field trips to museums, galleries, and other cultural venues in New York and Paris. Additionally, accepted residents will receive living and materials allowances, accommodation allowances, and a return travel ticket. The ISCP in New York City supports the creative development of artists and curators, promoting exchange through residencies and public programs.
The Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris is a dynamic international residency program where artists can interact and network with professionals from around the world. The residents will have the opportunity to showcase their work in an open studio event during their residency, gaining exposure to a diverse audience. The Head of Programmes and Exhibitions at Fire Station, Saida Al Khulaifi, emphasized that the Paris and New York Residency programs offer unforgettable experiences for artists looking to expand their horizons and make a meaningful impact on the global art community.
Both New York and Paris are historically significant cities known for their rich artistic cultures and opportunities for creative growth. Artists from all nationalities above 21 years of age are encouraged to apply for these programs, as they provide a platform for artists to gain enriched perspectives, develop new skills, and showcase their work on a global stage. By the end of the residency programs, selected artists will be well-equipped to prove their artistic mettle and make a mark in the global art scene.
