A recent delegation from the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar traveled to Thailand following an invitation from the Thai Embassy. The main objective of the visit was to enhance cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of food safety between the two countries. Led by Director Wasan Abdulla Al Baker, the delegation included key officials from the Food Safety Department at the Ministry, such as Khalid Al Sulaiti and Najat Al Abdulmalik.

Throughout their visit, the delegation engaged with relevant officials and experts in Thailand to discuss various topics related to food safety. One key discussion revolved around the process of obtaining halal certifications for food products exported to Qatar. There was also talk about the potential signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on food safety collaboration. In addition, the team inspected the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, where they learned about agricultural practices and phytosanitary measures.

The delegation further explored various aspects of food safety during their visit to central laboratories in Thailand and Kasetsart University. In discussions with the university’s president, they were introduced to ongoing projects and research related to food safety. The team also visited the Faculty of Agro-Industry and the Food Research Institute, as well as held a meeting with Dr Narong Aphikulvanich of the Thai Food and Drug Administration to learn more about standardization programs and import protocols for food products.

Future collaborations were discussed during the delegation’s visit to Chulalongkorn University, where they met with university president Dr Wilert Puriwat. The visit included an overview of the HAL-Q system research, an inspection of halal laboratories, and talks about potential academic partnerships in halal sciences. Furthermore, the team focused on understanding food safety controls by inspecting laboratories at the Food and Drug Administration and Suvarnabhumi Airport, as well as touring the air cargo area and inspection facilities within the logistics zone, including Laem Chabang Port.

Overall, the visit to Thailand by the Ministry of Public Health delegation was a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing collaboration in the field of food safety. By engaging with experts and officials in Thailand, the delegation was able to gain valuable insights and knowledge that can be applied to improve food safety standards in Qatar. With discussions on halal certifications, potential MoUs, and academic collaborations, the visit laid the foundation for future partnerships that will benefit both countries. Through continued cooperation and knowledge exchange, Qatar and Thailand can work together to ensure the safety and quality of food products for their citizens.
