The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in Doha has recently released the fifth version of the Class License for Short-Range Devices after taking into consideration feedback from stakeholders and interested parties. This move reflects CRA’s dedication to staying up to date with the fast-paced technological advancements in radiocommunication devices and ensuring that the technological applications and frequency bands for short-range devices in Qatar comply with international standards and technical specifications.
The updated version of the Class License for Short-Range Devices introduces additional frequency bands with new values and increased flexibility in permitted transmit power values, in response to recent developments in radiocommunication devices and their applications. These new frequencies will allow for a wider variety of short-range devices to be used and sold in Qatar, catering to various sectors and a large consumer base in the country.
This update aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, which aim to enhance residents’ quality of life and provide services that meet global standards. By allowing for a broader range of short-range devices and applications, the fifth version of the Class License supports the country’s vision for progress and development.
During the public consultation period, stakeholders and interested parties were invited to provide input on the draft of the Class License, which included significant proposals for updating the previous version. This collaborative process enabled CRA to understand the needs of the sector and address them in a transparent and organized manner, leading to the release of the fifth version to replace the fourth version issued in June 2021.
Overall, the issuance of the fifth version of the Class License for Short-Range Devices demonstrates CRA’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancements in Qatar and ensuring that the country remains at the forefront of radiocommunication device regulation. By embracing new frequencies and providing greater flexibility in permitted transmit power values, Qatar is poised to benefit from a wider range of short-range devices and applications that will serve its diverse sectors and consumer base.
