Nayef Alyafei, a Qatar Foundation alumnus, serves as a testament to the transformative power of education. Graduating from Texas A&M University at Qatar and HEC Paris in Qatar, both QF partner universities, Alyafei has also been involved in teaching at Academyati and pursuing his passion for visual arts at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar. Starting his QF journey with a Petroleum Engineering Degree in 2005, Alyafei admits that he did not initially realize his potential but credits hard work as the driving force behind his success.

Upon completing his Master’s and PhD degrees at Imperial College in the UK, Alyafei returned to Qatar as a faculty member at TAMUQ, making history as the first QF graduate to do so. This year, in addition to his role at TAMUQ, Alyafei will graduate from HEC Paris with an Executive MBA, alongside the students he has taught. Reflecting on his journey, Alyafei emphasizes the importance of education in contributing to Qatar’s growth and sustainability, stating that it is a key factor in improving society.

For Alyafei, Qatar Foundation holds a special place, providing opportunities for personal and professional development in various fields. He highlights the impact of QF on his skill set, particularly praising the art and design classes he took with Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar. Transitioning to a new role as Associate Professor and Advisor to the President at Qatar University, Alyafei focuses on encouraging his students to prioritize learning over grades and to enjoy their educational experiences.

A testament to the value of continuous learning and personal growth, Alyafei’s journey exemplifies the opportunities and resources provided by Qatar Foundation. His dedication to education, combined with his passion for visual arts, highlights the importance of pursuing multiple interests and expanding one’s horizons.
