The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ General Directorate of Endowments (AWQAF) and the Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post) have recently announced the release of a new stamp issue consisting of 10 designs. This release commemorates the 100th anniversary of the endowment of Abdullah bin Saad. The Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments, Eng. Hassan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, mentioned that Abdullah bin Saad’s endowment is one of the oldest in Qatar, showcasing vintage Qatari endowments.
During a press conference, Al Marzouqi explained that the 100-year-old endowment has evolved over time to include a variety of villas, traditional houses, and modern residential buildings with annexes in the Bin Mahmoud area. These properties have also led to the development of several investment projects. The revenue generated from this endowment is utilized to provide sustainable support for religious work, the Noble Quran, mosques, orphanages, healthcare, and students, showcasing the significant impact that the endowment has on society.
Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Post, Faleh bin Mohammed Al Naemi, highlighted that this collaborative effort will result in the issuance of 50,000 commemorative stamps in sets of 5,000, with each set consisting of ten QR2 stamps. The stamp designs will feature nine prominent endowment architectural landmarks in Qatar, including the General Directorate of Endowments building and the Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center, among others. This initiative aims to celebrate and honor the historical significance of these endowments within the Qatari community.
