Zehy Al Dhabari, a British-born Omani musician, is making a name for himself in the London jazz scene with his band Yazatas. The group, formed in 2022 and featuring lead vocalist Jezmond Farren, bassist Zak Dajani, and Zehy on drums, has impressed audiences with their performances and two singles. They are now gearing up for the release of their debut jazz album, “Shadow Characters,” expected at the end of this year or early next year.
Zehy’s musical journey began at a young age, being influenced by his schoolteacher and eventually discovering his passion for drums. With the support of influential mentors and his parents, Zehy pursued his musical education, earning degrees in music and jazz. Despite the challenges of finding practice spaces, Zehy’s talent led him to valuable experiences at the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy and the Ronnie Scott Jazz Club.
Yazatas formed when Zehy met Jezmond in London, with the addition of bassist Zaki giving the band a unique identity. Zehy dreams of performing in Oman, where his roots lie, as a full-circle moment in his career. He credits his mentors and draws inspiration from a variety of musicians, shaping his understanding of rhythm and melody.
In addition to jazz legends, Zehy enjoys listening to composers and bands from various genres. He also maintains a YouTube channel where he experiments with soundscapes and explores different artistic interests. Zehy’s music aims to bridge cultures and create connections, sharing a piece of himself with the world through his compositions.
As Yazatas gears up for their debut album release, Zehy’s goal is to invite listeners into a world where tradition meets modernity, and every note tells a story. His journey is not just about achieving fame but about celebrating authenticity, artistry, and the influences that shape his sound. With a passion for music and a desire to connect with audiences, Zehy Al Dhabari is set to make a lasting impact on the music world with his band Yazatas.
