The bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Kuwait have been witnessing significant development in all aspects, reflecting the deep historic, cultural, political, and economic ties between the two nations. The recent visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik to Kuwait and his meeting with Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmed Al Jabir Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, further solidified the strong relationship between the two countries. Oman and Kuwait have set an example in handling regional and international issues and have formed a joint committee in 2003 to work on enhancing bilateral relations, resulting in the signing of various agreements and memoranda of understanding in different fields.

The economic relations between Oman and Kuwait have seen remarkable progress, especially with the execution of joint projects in the Special Economic Zone Duqm (Sezad), including the Duqm Refinery project. The Omani-Kuwait Joint Committee, chaired by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the foreign minister of Oman, and Sheikh Salim Abdullah Al Jabir Al Sabah, former foreign minister of Kuwait, has been working diligently to strengthen ties between the two countries. The latest meeting of the committee, held in March 2023, saw the participation of senior officials from both nations, underscoring the commitment to enhancing cooperation.

Dr. Saleh bin Amer Al Kharousi, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Kuwait, emphasized the significance of Sultan Haitham’s visit to Kuwait in bolstering bilateral relations in various sectors. He highlighted the continued coordination between Oman and Kuwait on regional and international issues. Additionally, Dr. Kharousi noted that economic relations between the two countries have been a key focus, with the opening of the Duqm Refinery in February – a joint venture worth $9 billion supported by both leaders. This investment represents the largest joint Gulf project and underscores the strength of the economic ties between Oman and Kuwait.

Dr. Mohammed Nasser Madhi, Kuwait’s ambassador to Oman, expressed optimism that Sultan Haitham’s visit to Kuwait will further enhance the exceptional relations between the two countries. The close cooperation between Oman and Kuwait on various fronts, including political, economic, and cultural matters, has been instrumental in strengthening their overall partnership. Both nations have been working together on regional and international issues, showcasing a shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

In conclusion, the deep-rooted historic, cultural, and political ties between Oman and Kuwait continue to serve as the foundation for their strong bilateral relations. The recent visit of Sultan Haitham to Kuwait and the ongoing collaboration between the two countries underscore the commitment to further enhancing ties across various sectors. By focusing on economic development, regional cooperation, and mutual respect, Oman and Kuwait are setting an example for other nations in the region on how to build and maintain a productive and positive relationship. As both countries continue to strengthen their partnership, the future looks bright for the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Kuwait.
