The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Sultanate of Oman, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Business Council Initiative, is organizing the first Sri Lankan Roadshow in Muscat under the theme ‘Serendib the Golden Island’. The event, scheduled to take place on 5th July, 2024 at the Oasis Mall in Al Khuwair, aims to promote Sri Lankan culture, tourism, and trade to the Omani and expatriate community in Oman. The roadshow will offer a variety of experiences to showcase Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination, with the participation of Sri Lankan tour operators and the support of the local expatriate community.

The event is designed to attract tourists from Oman during the summer vacation period, highlighting the vibrant culture and trade opportunities in Sri Lanka. With the participation of the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Oman, the roadshow aims to create a lasting impression of Sri Lanka among Omani and expatriates, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral economic ties. The event will feature cultural activities such as traditional dances, music, and a fashion show, as well as stands promoting Sri Lankan trade products such as Ceylon Tea, spices, and confectionaries.

Sri Lanka, known historically as ‘Serendib’ among Arab traders, has been a significant trading hub in the Indian Ocean due to its rich resources and strategic location. The island’s historical connection with Arab traders has contributed to the enhancement of people-to-people connections and socio-economic exchanges over the centuries. Sri Lanka has emerged as one of the leading tourist destinations globally, attracting around 800,000 tourists in 2024. The growing middle and upper-class population in Oman, with a significant interest in international travel, is expected to have a positive impact on the tourism market in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan Roadshow in Muscat marks a unique opportunity for businesses to promote their products and services to a receptive audience, expand their presence in the market, and contribute to the economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Oman. The event will feature sponsorship packages for companies interested in supporting the roadshow, including opportunities for Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Associate sponsorships. Oasis Mall Al Khuwair is the venue partner and First Gold Sponsor for the event, providing a platform for businesses to showcase their offerings.

The Embassy, along with the SLBCI, encourages trade, tour, and media personnel to join hands in promoting the event as a memorable experience for the citizens and residents of Oman. Additionally, the Omani and expatriate community in the Sultanate are invited to visit the Oasis Mall on 5th July, 2024, from 3.00pm to 9.00pm to immerse themselves in the rich culture, trade, and tourism offerings of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Roadshow promises to be a delightful opportunity for the people of Oman to discover the charms and joys of the ‘Golden Island’.
