The Sultanate of Oman saw a significant increase in the number of passengers passing through its airports during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. According to preliminary statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, a total of 7,074,854 passengers traveled through Omani airports, representing an 11.9% increase from the 6,322,152 passengers in the first half of 2023. Muscat International Airport accounted for the majority of these passengers, with 6,386,267 individuals passing through its gates, marking an 11.8% increase from the previous year.

In addition to Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport also experienced growth in passenger numbers, with 628,951 individuals passing through its terminals during the first half of 2024. This marked a 10.9% increase from the same period in 2023. International flights through Salalah Airport totaled 2,475, with 306,989 passengers onboard, while domestic flights numbered 2,213, carrying 321,962 passengers.

Furthermore, Sohar Airport saw a total of 29,751 passengers onboard 268 flights during the first half of the year, while Duqm Airport catered to 29,885 passengers on 308 flights. These figures indicate that a diverse range of airports in Oman are contributing to the increase in passenger traffic across the country.

The growth in passenger numbers at Omani airports can be attributed to various factors, including the country’s strategic location as a hub for travel between Asia, Africa, and Europe. Additionally, Oman’s efforts to enhance its aviation infrastructure and services are helping to attract more travelers to the country. The government has been investing in expanding and modernizing its airports, as well as improving connectivity and flight options for passengers.

With ongoing efforts to promote tourism and strengthen its position as a regional travel destination, Oman is likely to see further growth in passenger numbers in the coming years. The country’s diverse landscapes, cultural attractions, and welcoming hospitality are all factors that contribute to its appeal for international visitors. By continuing to invest in its aviation sector and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers, Oman is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for air travel in the region.

In conclusion, the increase in passenger traffic at Omani airports is a positive indicator of the country’s growing popularity as a travel destination. With continued investment in its aviation infrastructure and services, Oman is well-equipped to accommodate the rising demand for air travel and further boost its tourism industry. As the country works towards enhancing its connectivity and promoting its unique attractions, it is poised to attract even more visitors in the years to come.
