OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) recently celebrated the inauguration of the Saib Project, an additional gas pipeline in Dhofar Governorate in Oman. The project, worth OMR76 million, spans 208 km and aims to expand the gas network’s capacity by 60% in response to the region’s rising population, urban development, and economic growth. The inauguration ceremony, held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, was attended by government officials, community leaders, OQGN Board of Directors, key stakeholders, and contractors. The project consists of two loops, totaling 208 km of 32-inch pipeline alongside the existing 24-inch pipeline, with 6 block valve stations and 3 new launching and receiving stations.
Eng. Mansoor Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, emphasized the significance of the Saib Project in addressing the growing demand for gas in the region and supporting local communities while fostering economic development in line with Oman Vision 2040. The project’s completion marks a major advancement in strengthening the natural gas infrastructure in Oman, meeting the energy needs of Dhofar Governorate and demonstrating a commitment to sustainable growth and a transition to clean energy in the future. OQGN has maintained an impressive gas availability rate of 99.9% over the past decade, successfully transporting approximately 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas and operating around 4,031 kilometers of gas pipelines throughout the country.
In addition to the Saib Project, OQGN has actively supported its In-Country Value (ICV) initiatives by investing OMR11.5 million in local materials and services for project implementation and engaging the local community. More than 380 Omanis were employed during the project’s execution, and comprehensive training was provided to develop national talent to meet international standards in critical areas such as health, safety, and the environment, among others. The project’s emphasis on promoting HSE corporate practices has resulted in more than three million man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI), showcasing OQGN’s commitment to safety and quality standards.
OQGN acts as a crucial link connecting gas producers with consumers in key sectors such as LNG, power generation, water desalination, oil and gas, industrial plants, and commercial plants. The Saib Project represents a milestone in OQGN’s projects records and supports the company’s goal of meeting the growing energy demand in Dhofar Governorate while aligning with Oman Vision 2040. By expanding the gas network’s capacity, OQGN is poised to play a significant role in the country’s transition to clean energy and sustainable development in the years to come.
