The Dhofar Khareef season in Muscat has seen a significant increase in visitors this year, with a total of 1.6635 million people visiting the region from the beginning of the season until the end of August 2024. This represents a 9 percent increase compared to the previous season in 2023, which saw 924,127 tourists visit the area. The National Centre for Statistics and Information reported that Omani visitors increased by 8.7 percent, with 713,105 people visiting, while visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council countries reached 171,762, up from 156,953 in 2023. Additionally, visitors from other nationalities totaled 121,767, compared to 111,055 last year.

One interesting trend is the increase in visitors arriving through land ports, which reached 786,107 by the end of August. In addition, 220,528 visitors arrived via air travel, marking a 5.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Notably, August accounted for 59 percent of the total fall visitors in 2024, showcasing the popularity of the season among tourists. The region’s unique attractions, such as the lush greenery and cooler temperatures during Khareef, continue to draw visitors from both within Oman and internationally.

The increase in visitors to Dhofar Khareef is not only beneficial for the region’s tourism industry but also for the local economy. With more tourists spending money on accommodations, dining, and experiences, businesses in the area are likely to see a boost in revenue during the season. Additionally, the rise in visitor numbers highlights the growing popularity and appeal of Dhofar Khareef as a destination for both leisure and cultural experiences. By attracting a diverse range of visitors from Oman, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and other nationalities, the region is positioning itself as a must-visit location in Muscat.

As the numbers continue to rise year after year, it is clear that Dhofar Khareef is becoming a top choice for travelers looking to explore the beauty and culture of Muscat. The region’s unique natural landscapes, including its lush mountains and stunning waterfalls, offer a picturesque backdrop for visitors seeking outdoor adventure and relaxation. With a variety of activities and attractions to choose from, including hiking, camping, and exploring local markets, Dhofar Khareef provides a memorable experience for every type of traveler. Whether visitors are looking to immerse themselves in nature or learn about the region’s rich history, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this oasis of greenery.

In light of the positive growth in visitor numbers, stakeholders in the tourism industry in Muscat are likely looking for ways to further enhance the visitor experience and capitalize on the region’s potential. By investing in infrastructure improvements, marketing initiatives, and sustainable tourism practices, Muscat can continue to attract more visitors to Dhofar Khareef and create a thriving, sustainable tourism industry. With the right strategies in place, the region has the opportunity to become a premier destination in Muscat, drawing visitors from around the world to experience its unique beauty and cultural heritage. It is clear that the future looks bright for Dhofar Khareef as it continues to be a top choice for travelers seeking an unforgettable vacation experience in Muscat.
