The Sultanate of Oman will be the guest of honour at the 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair, which will take place from 9 to 18 May 2024. The delegation from Oman will consist of various government ministries and institutions, as well as civil society organizations such as the Omani Society for Writers and Literati and the Memory of Oman National Cultural Centre. The theme of the book fair is “Knowledge builds civilizations”, and it will feature more than 180,000 titles from 515 publishing houses representing 42 countries.
Sayyid Said Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, emphasized the importance of Oman’s participation as the guest of honour at the event, highlighting the strong cultural ties between Oman and Qatar. The goal of Oman’s participation is to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage and achievements to visitors at the book fair. The design of Oman’s pavilion at the event is inspired by the Al Alam Palace, known for its stunning architecture and artistic decorations.
One of the highlights of Oman’s participation in the book fair will be the performances by the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (OCO) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Oman pavilion will feature three main exhibitions, including a promotion of Oman’s tourist, cultural, and historical landmarks, a display of six rare Omani manuscripts, and a joint photography exhibition with the Qatar Photography Society. In addition, visitors can expect to see products from government institutions, a virtual reality technology show, and exhibits from the World List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
