The Sultanate of Oman recently participated in the 40th Ministerial Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul, Turkey. The Omani delegation, led by Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, highlighted the efforts of Oman in enhancing digital transformation in the financial sector. The Sultanate of Oman has implemented a “three-year National Payment Systems Strategy (2022-2024)” to facilitate electronic payments and boost financial efficiency. Dr. Al Saqri emphasized Oman’s commitment to collaborating with OIC member states to exchange expertise and best practices in digital transformation for sustainable economic development in the region. The session also discussed international developments impacting OIC member states, including areas like intra-trade, financial cooperation, transport, tourism, agriculture, and poverty alleviation.

The reports from various OIC and COMCEC working groups were reviewed during the ministerial session, with discussions on topics such as activating the trade preference system among member states and defining the list of privileged goods for countries interested in joining the system. The meeting provided a platform for member states to exchange views, share experiences, and address challenges faced in the region. The Sultanate of Oman’s active participation in the session reflects its commitment to regional economic cooperation and collaboration within the OIC framework. The discussions also emphasized the importance of intra-OIC trade, financial cooperation, and enhancing connectivity through transport and communication networks to drive economic growth and development in member states.
