Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman, Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, recently met with the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands in Rotterdam. The meeting, which took place during Oman’s participation in the World Hydrogen Summit 2024, focused on discussing joint cooperation opportunities between the two countries in various fields such as ports, hydrogen techniques, maritime affairs, and infrastructure. The Omani delegation present at the meeting included Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Salim Al Harthy, Oman’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, and Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport.

During the meeting, both ministers explored potential areas of collaboration to strengthen ties between Oman and the Netherlands. This includes sharing knowledge and expertise in the development of ports and infrastructure, as well as utilizing hydrogen techniques to enhance sustainable practices in the maritime industry. The discussions aimed to promote mutual benefits and opportunities for economic growth and technological advancement in both countries. By working together, Oman and the Netherlands can create innovative solutions and contribute to the global efforts towards achieving environmental sustainability and economic prosperity.

The meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of maritime affairs, considering the strategic location of both countries along vital maritime routes. By collaborating on maritime initiatives, Oman and the Netherlands can enhance their competitiveness in the global shipping industry and facilitate trade and transportation activities. Sharing best practices and technologies in port management and maritime operations can lead to improved efficiency, safety, and environmental performance in the maritime sector. This can ultimately boost economic growth and contribute to the sustainable development goals of both countries.

In addition to discussing cooperation in the maritime sector, the meeting also emphasized the significance of utilizing hydrogen techniques in various industries. Hydrogen is considered a clean and sustainable energy source that can help reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental protection. By exchanging knowledge and expertise in hydrogen technologies, Oman and the Netherlands can explore opportunities for implementing hydrogen-powered solutions in transportation, infrastructure, and other sectors. This will not only support the transition towards a low-carbon economy but also foster innovation and collaboration in sustainable practices.

The meeting between the ministers of Oman and the Netherlands reflects the commitment of both countries to fostering strong partnerships and leveraging each other’s strengths in key areas of mutual interest. By working together on ports, infrastructure, hydrogen technologies, and maritime affairs, Oman and the Netherlands can capitalize on their respective resources and capabilities to achieve common goals and objectives. Collaborative efforts between the two countries can lead to innovative solutions, knowledge sharing, and capacity building, contributing to sustainable development and economic growth in the region and beyond.

Overall, the meeting between Minister Al Maawali and his Dutch counterpart underscores the importance of international cooperation and collaboration in driving progress and positive change. By engaging in dialogue, exchanging ideas, and exploring opportunities for partnership, Oman and the Netherlands can build a strong foundation for sustainable development and prosperity. Through joint efforts in ports, hydrogen techniques, maritime affairs, and infrastructure, the two countries can work towards achieving common objectives and contributing to the global efforts towards a more resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible future.
